Projects

Here's just a small sampling of projects we have created and implemented in our communities.

Art and farm Animals

Raising a Farmer collaborates with local artists creating a space for community members to embrace, experience and become creative using farm animals as their muse. Artists of various mediums offer instructions on various skill levels, beginner or advance. Many do not have access to farm animals. Raising a Farmer gives the accessibility of farm animals to individuals by bringing them to unlikely places. The spaces created by Raising a Farmer gives youth and adults the ability to ask questions about farming, animals, food and food systems.

Food Donations

Raising a Farmer partners with organizations and individuals bringing foods to families where food desserts exist in urban settings.

Proteins are intentionally raised on Raising a Farmer for families in need.

Food Demonstrations

Raising a Farmer offers food demonstrations at Farmer’s Market creating a meal with all ingredients sourced from market the same day. Food demonstrations provide nutrition and education. Giving the education of in season foods bridges the gap between rural and urban communities. Simple recipes and on site demonstrations gives the confidence for meals to be created in homes with farm fresh ingredients from market.

Food brings us together in a kitchen or seated around a dinner table. Raising a Farmers food demonstrations invites all into her market kitchen to gather and share about food that connects us.

School Visits

Raising a Farmer collaborates with local schools offering farm, food system and nutrition education to students and staff. Working and collaborating with schools is a vital part to food education. Offering support to food services within schools by providing locally grown proteins served in school lunches builds the connection to local farmers. This collaboration enhances the food experience for youth in communities. Working with and elevating existing programs within schools.

Connecting and building community with our youth.

Farmer’s Market Activities

Raising a Farmer offers free activities for market goers at farmer’s market. Throughout the season activities change reflecting what is in season coinciding with the farming season. These activities engage youth at market using all of their senses. Engaging youth at market sparks curiosity surrounding farming and food.
